The beautiful village of Braithwaite is located just over 2 miles from the bustling market town of Keswick. With a picturesque village shop, pet-friendly pubs and other eateries there is no need to venture furtherafield. With so many walks to choose from right on your doorstep, you can park up and explore everything Braithwaite has to offer.
Braithwaite is a great starting point for both walking and outdoor pursuits. As you step out of your cottage, pop on your boots and start exploring! You will be spoilt for choice with Grisedale Pike, Barrow, Outerside and the Coledale Horseshoe. If you fancy venturing further afield the beautiful Newlands Valley and famous Catbells are just a 5-minute drive away.
Kids big and small will find plenty to do from swimming in the dam to forest adventures. Ideally situated at the foot of England’s only true Mountain forest, the Whinlatter Visitor Centre should definitely be top of your list. Hire a bike and race down one of the many exhilarating mountain bike trails or take advantage of the free activities such as the adventure playground. If you prefer something more relaxing grab a map from the centre and take in the wildfire and fantastic views on one of the many woodland walks.
For good coffee and a slice of homemade cake, check out Jaspers. If you’re looking for something more substantial, try the Royal Oak pub for some hearty portions of traditional pub food.
Head up the hill to Coledale Inn and take in the spectacular views whilst you enjoy some homemade food and local ales. If you are looking for something extra special then indulge yourself with some Michelin star cuisine at The Cottage in the Wood. We highly recommend the tasting menu.
With the advantage of a cycle path running to Keswick and regular X4 / X5 bus services, Braithwaite is the ideal base for exploring the surrounding area and the rest of The Lake District.
