The fully-equipped kitchen allows the designated chef to get to work preparing and cooking up a delicious meal

Description

Step inside and discover the spacious open-plan living, kitchen and dining area which will immediately impress, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the views (see photos). The fully-equipped kitchen allows the designated chef to get to work preparing and cooking up a delicious meal, while the dining table is the perfect spot to tuck in, gaze at the views and recount past adventures. After a busy day exploring, the living room with comfortable leather seating makes the perfect place to come back and relax with a cup of tea, or catch up with your favourite shows on the wall-mounted Smart TV.

There are 3 modern attractive bedrooms, all with zip & link beds, which provides flexibility to suit different group requirements. The master bedroom can be super king or standard twin, and the two other bedrooms can be king size or compact twin. All bedrooms have new high-quality mattresses, luxury white bed linen and towels.

The beautiful new bathrooms are a very good size; one with basin, WC, heated towel rail and bath with shower unit over the bath, and the second with a substantial shower unit, basin, WC and heated towel rail.

You could enjoy breathtaking views while dining alfresco on warm summer days.

There is a useful utility room with washing machine, separate dryer, and a Belfast sink overlooking Derwentwater.

The lodge boasts ample parking. There are several lovely walks immediately on offer from the door, so don’t forget your hiking boots! Or why not bring your mountain bike with you to see even more of this beautiful area (lockable storage available in shed for pedal bikes but no facilities for charging/storing e-bikes).

Castlerigg Hall campsite is nearby where you can purchase basics such as fresh milk, bread and eggs. Fancy a bite to eat? Why not try the cafe at Castlerigg Hall which is open daily from 12-4 for delicious coffee and cakes, and the Heights Hotel Crag Bar 5 minutes down the lane sells vegetarian and vegan-friendly meals every evening from spring-autumn.

Path to walk down into Keswick (about 25 mins); paths to Castlerigg Stone Circle (about 35 minutes), and Walla Crag (about 40 minutes) with spectacular views down to Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. You may be lucky enough to spot paragliders taking flight!

Gem of a place in the heart of the Lake District
I went up to the Lake District with several old friends to do a walking trip in the Lake District. The lodge was absolutely perfect for our stay. We all came from London, which was very easy to do on the 3-hour train to Penrith. We then rented a car in Penrith which was very easy to do, and perfect for the trip. The lodge is perfectly placed to get straight out onto the hills, either for short walks nearby or to set off on full-length expeditions that take you straight into some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District. It's probably best to visit with a car, either your own if you have one or if not then renting like we did from Penrith. It's a very short drive into the lovely town of Keswick, and you're within easy reach of essentially everywhere you could want to visit in the lakes. An example day from our visit - we visited some lovely waterfalls where we swam in the plunge pools, stopped to see an amazing ancient church nearby afterwards, then finished the day in Keswick for one of the best Indian meals (Barua Street Food) any of has had in the UK. The lodge is incredibly peaceful, and a very comfy place to be. We all commented to each other how well we'd slept every night - lots of walking in the day probably helps too! For food, we stocked up at Lidl right after picking up the car and did a couple of easy trips to the very nice supermarket in Keswick. The lodge has everything you need to cook hearty meals, which for us was fry-ups in the morning for hiking fuel, then big dinners with wine in the evening. These were much enjoyed and well earned after all the wonderful walking during the day. Overall this is an absolute gem if you're looking for a special place to stay in the Lake District. You have a spectacular view on to Derwentwater, Keswick is minutes away, and some of the best walks in the area literally begin at the gate to the lodge.

Breathtaking views!
Swallows lodge is beautiful, light and spacious with absolutely stunning views of Derwentwater. The rooms were well sized and very comfortable, and the kitchen was very well equipped. We especially enjoyed playing lots of board games which were provided. The lodge is in a great location with several lovely hikes such as Walla Cragg, as well as shorter walks to Castlerigg Stone Circle, on its doorstep. We also were able to walk to and from Keswick, visiting the market on Saturday morning. We will definitely be back, thanks for a great stay!

Thank you for this fantastic 5* review! Swallows Lodge is an absolute haven overlooking the lake and the surrounding fells, and it's an extra bonus that the views can be enjoyed from the comfort of the cosy sofas! Walks in the fells and evenings playing games are the perfect ways to spend your time in the Lakes, it sounds like you had a really wonderful holiday. We look forward to hosting you again soon. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages.
